The Good

Lynn Teo: Portfolios Matter — Building the Portfolio to Win the Job

Lady Liberty says “Get a job”. Wait, maybe she says “(Come)Get a life”.  The two are not the same thing.  Why waste your time twittering away being busy at nothing?  Make it count.  Write it down. Express yourself. Pull the trigger and leave a big bad ass mark.  Portfolios allow you to become the rugged individualist and fly whatever flag you like.  A portfolio is like your very own declaration of independence – Independence from school and jobs and sterotypes and whatever.

The Bad

UX designer launches Dark Patterns Awards | News | .net magazine

Americans love to hate.  Holding a strong opinion and defending it ’til death is considered virtueous to many Americans.  What do UX’ers hate? The weaponization of our gentle craft and science.  The Dark Arts practioners use UX knowledge and skill to trick and deceive, lie, cheat and steal.  These folks skipped the ethics classes in school.

But can hate be something we don’t hate? Let’s don’t hide from our dark side.  It’s time to let the light shine in and expose these black hat techniques. They aren’t going away until we change them.

The Ugly Beautiful

A symbol of southern heritage and pride.

The America that I know is Crazy Ugly Beautiful.  From my perspective, we are all trending towards the better.  I have faith in America.  I’m not saying you should – especially those looking for leadership.  He’s not here.  I was born here and this is my home. But, I know better and that’s my burden, I suppose.

Take the plunge. Leap forward in faith and trust that goodness, love, beauty and joy (whatever your definition ) abounds.  Find your gang and dirty your hands.  Mix it up and see what happens.

Here’s my definition of ‘Good’ – Smiles, beaches and watermelon with a BBKing soundtrack.

Let’s keep the Summer rollin along.  Take in a big deep breath of Summer and enjoy!  Declare independence from stress and pledge allegiance to freedom!
